Praying Like There’s No Tomorrow: Week Three Group Discussion Guide

Opportune Prayer

Philippians 4:4-7 and Psalm 145:2

Pray Together

  1. Spend about a minute or two in silent prayer. Ask God to speak to you during your group time in any way he desires.

  2. Pray for God to speak to your fellow group members. Don’t rush through this time. Spend time listening to the Lord.

Discuss Together

  • Go around the circle and share an encouragement for every group members. Start with the group leader and allow everyone to share how that person is meaningful to them, the group, and our church. Spend time some time making sure everyone is affirmed and encouraged.

Read Together: Philippians 4:4-7

4 Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice! 5 Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.

6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Discuss Together

  • What do you feel is the greatest obstacle in this passage?

  • What do you feel is the greatest opportunity in this passage?

  • Why do you think we are so prone to be anxious?

  • How does prayer help our anxiety?

  • Do you prayer as an obligation or an opportunity? Why?

  • How does seeing prayer as an opportunity change your perspective on prayer?

  • How can you take more opportunities to pray?

  •  How can you build fascination into your spiritual formation (discipleship)?

Pray Together

  1. Take time to pray for the needs of your group members.

  2. Pray for our church that we would be a people of prayer and not simply people who pray.
