A Living Hope Week Five
1 Peter 3:1-6
Greet everyone and check in on how everyone’s week has been.
Take a moment to read Psalm 118 verse 5 as a group.
Spend time praising God for who He is. Recognize that He is our Father and we are brothers and sisters in Christ.
Ask the Holy Spirit to control the evening’s discussion.
Ask God to enlighten your understanding to apply His word.
1 Peter 1:13-2:12
1 In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands. Then, even if some refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives will speak to them without any words. They will be won over 2 by observing your pure and reverent lives.
3 Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. 4 You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. 5 This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They put their trust in God and accepted the authority of their husbands. 6 For instance, Sarah obeyed her husband, Abraham, and called him her master. You are her daughters when you do what is right without fear of what your husbands might do.
Why is submission so difficult of a subject to discuss? What are some common fears around the concept of submission? How has this concept been abused by Christians?
What struggles have you had in the area of submission (to the Lord and in marriage)?
Wives, should you desire to win the hearts of your husbands? Why or why not?
How do you develop your inner life? Why is this important to your marriage?
Why are godly mentors important? How can you find a godly mentor? Do you have someone like this in your life? If so, describe how this person is helpful to you.
What can you do to improve your marriage?
Spend some time praying for the marriages in your group and in our church. Ask the Lord to protect us from Satan getting an advantage in our marriages.
