A Living Hope Week Six

1 Peter 3:1-7

Greet everyone and check in on how everyone’s week has been.

Take a moment to read Psalm 118 verse 5 as a group.

  • Begin your time in prayer. Ask the Lord to open your heart to what he wants to say to you during your group time.

  • Pray for other group members that God would bless them and lead them.

1 Peter 3:1-7

1 In the same way, you wives must accept the authority of your husbands. Then, even if some refuse to obey the Good News, your godly lives will speak to them without any words. They will be won over 2 by observing your pure and reverent lives.

3 Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. 4 You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. 5 This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They put their trust in God and accepted the authority of their husbands. 6 For instance, Sarah obeyed her husband, Abraham, and called him her master. You are her daughters when you do what is right without fear of what your husbands might do.

7 In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.

  1. How is the message different to husbands in this text than it is to wives?

  2. Do you see a problem with cohabitation among unmarried couples? Why or why not?

  3. What does it mean for a husband to “be present”?

  4. How can a husband demonstrate respect for his wife?

  5. Why is the term “weaker vessel” when it refers to women offensive to some? Should it be? Why or why not?

  6. Do see advantages than men have over women today? What are some? How can husbands demonstrate love and respect for their wives in these circumstances?

  7. Why is it important for men to live with their wives in an understanding way? What effect does this have on their spiritual lives?

Spend time praying for marriages. Pray for the marriages in our church and the marriages of those outside the church. Pray that our marriages would proclaim the gospel to a watching world.
