It’s Like This: Stories of the Kingdom of God

Week Two: Why Can’t Have More Faith?
Matthew 13:31-33

The way to have more faith is not to focus on the proportion of your faith, but to focus on the placement of your faith.

PRAYER & SCRIPTURE

Begin your group with a time of prayer. Here are some prompts.

ONE Spend some time sitting in silence. Invite God into this space. Ask for the Lord's presence to be real.

TWO Spend time just calling out thankfulness. Verbally express ways that you are thankful to the Lord.

THREE Pray for our church. Ask the Lord to be the Lord & Master of his church.

Read Matthew 13:31-33. Spend some time reading it in various translations.

Parable of the Mustard Seed

31 Here is another illustration Jesus used: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field. 32 It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches.”

Parable of the Yeast

33 Jesus also used this illustration: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like the yeast a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough.”

DISCUSSION

  • When you hear the word, faith, what comes to mind?

  • Where is it difficult for you to have faith? Where do you struggle to trust God?

  • What does it look like to trust God instead of yourself?

  • How can you plant your faith deeper in God?

  • How does dying to myself lead to greater faith?

  • What are some quick fixes that people try to develop faith instead of trusting God?

  • What can you do to develop your faith?

Close your time by praying for one another.
